 Getting to know JoAnn DeBoer

I was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and attended Sioux Valley High School, graduating in 1980. I attended Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English and a minor in Speech Communications. I began my teaching career at Lakota Consolidated School in 1984 and continued here in 1987 when what is now the North Iowa Community School District was formed.

My life companion is the math instructor in Room 22 of North Iowa High School. We have two children, Abbey (N.I. Class of 2005) & Stephanie (N.I. Class of 2008). Abbey is married and teaching Middle School Writing for the Perry School system. Stephanie is attending Allen College of Nursing in Waterloo.

Our family has always enjoyed traveling, sporting events, game & card playing, and just being together. We are big Twins & Vikings fans and all love riding roller coasters. Our vacations tend to be active and filled with stories. Many of those carry over to the classroom because everyone has a story to tell.

I am anxious to get to know the students and parents of those that I have in class. I believe that everyone should be able to share their story. My love of speech and theater will be obvious in some of the things we do in class. I believe that honest communication is so important and I am an advocate for students. I am willing to devote extra time to any project that improves a student's ability to communicate more effectively, become a lifelong learner, and a more caring citizen.

I have a passion for teaching and a love of learning. I hope to share that with you!
