The minimum amount of course material covered involves the reactions of synthesis/decomposition, displacement, replacement, and oxidation/reduction. The student will understand how the mole concept is used to determine the amounts of reactants used and the amounts of products resulting from a reaction. The students will understand most of the terminology used by chemists in describing these reactions. If time permits, students are encouraged to investigate both the benefits and problems caused by chemical processes used in the chemical industry.
