Welcome to Fifth Grade Cultural Arts

Daily class includes Spanish language learning opportunities consisting of listening and speaking, and visual art study and projects. Vocabulary lists are given to each student. Usually there are no written assignments designated for homework. The topics in the Spanish course of study are an introduction to vocabulary of the classroom, alphabet, people, calendar, music, colors, holidays, food, customs, numbers, and greetings.  Art work of several cultures including our own is explored along with exposure to and use of different media and techniques. Project work includes memory/observation drawing, paper cutting, clay, paper study, career design and poster work.

Expectations and Assessment: To receive an A in this class, oral participation during Spanish language activities is required. Visual art work will be done with diligence, satisfying criteria, showing respect for all students, adults, and classroom materials. As an exploratory class, all students can achieve a C grade or higher. Lower grades reflect a student choosing not to manage his/her time well or exhibiting inappropriate behavior.
