Students will finish up a composition of everyday shapes using the basic shapes and add color using the pointellism technique. Next, they will explore block lettering through a group project. They will also learn about Diego Rivera and techniques for making murals using a grid and their photograph.

Students will continue working with ink on a composition that has been abstracted. They will work with pattern and repetition. When finished they will study and practice styles of calligraphy and complete a famous quote.

Finish up the contest poster cover and make preliminary drawing for painting in tempera. Start painting after color theory review.

Students will finish up their ink unit and begin a design for a Swedish clay stamp. They will learn about the history of the stamp, design a logo or symbol, and then construct it from clay.

Students will finish their Swedish cookie stamp and then learn about Pablo Picasso and abstract art. They will do a tempera painting and do a small amount of abstracting on it.

Students will draw 12 activities for a rough draft. They will learn about Faith Ringgold and divide up their paper for a quilted family portrait and proceed to draw in the activities around the center three squares.

Students will learn to use pen and ink. They will learn about abstracting from real life and design a cover for the Literary Club booklet cover. They must use a repeated pattern in the design they choose.

Students will make a Swedish clay stamp and begin a painting using a view finder. They will find a photo of their own choice. they will cut a view finder proportionate to a 12x18 piece of paper. They will move the window over the photo to find a pleasing view and copy the lines of the photo in that view on to a 12x18 sheet of paper. They will paint the background first and then the main shapes adding the illusion of texture last after the style of Vincent Van Gogh.
